Zoltan Kodaly

What is Kodaly?

 

Zoltan Kodaly (1882-1967) was a Hungrian composer and musician who believed there was a need to improve the quality of singing and music training of teachers and children. Kodaly believed music is meant to develop one’s entire being; personality, intellect, and emotions.

 

The Kodaly concept is a comprehensive approach to train basic musical  skills such as reading and writing of music. Essential key elements are singing, folk music, solfege, quality music, and sequencing.
