Kindergarten & 1st Grade

Kindergarten and 1st Grade is a fun time in music! In Forney we use the First Steps in Music by Dr. John Feierabend.  Through First Steps we are laying the foundation for students to become tuneful, beatful, and artful. Students will learn and use their 5 voices: speaking, singing, whisper, calling, and thinking. Students will spend lots of time discovering their singing voice through vocal exploration, echo and simple songs. In kindergarten we will be identifying the steady beat, as well as comparatives such as fast/slow, loud/quiet, and high/low.

2nd Grade

In 2nd grade we continue to fine tune our skills in tuneful singing and keeping a steady beat.  Once we have a good musical foundation we start Conversational Solfege. This is a pedagogy were students start learning musical literacy. In 2nd grade we learn rhythm patterns using quarter notes, eighth notes, and quarter rests.  Then we start learning the first three pitches do, re, mi.
